[Since Xinlan is here, Wuque has decided to do all he can to find some time to spoil her. So he finds a day to take a break from building their home on his land to take her out. To carry her to a spot in the park where he's set up a little picnic for them by the river. All with foods that he's actually cooked himself for her, a fact he wants to surprise her with.
Landing easily, he gently takes her hand to bring her to the blanket. The trees around them have beautiful twinkling lights to light their space. A romantic space to be sure. He hopes she will enjoy it.]
I also...got us a room to spend the night in. So we can be together without the others around us.
[Even if they do nothing but hold each other all night he would be happy. He just wants the time to be alone with her and to let her know how much he treasures her. It's not so easily done with the others around. But once he has their home built then he knows they'll have more times like this together.
A night to be the first of many.]
For now, we can eat here. I find the place to be peaceful.
[ For all the strangeness of this place, Xinlan can't fault it for giving her opportunities to be with Wuque. She lays relaxed in his hold, privately determined to enjoy every moment of his company. She is beyond lucky to have this, she knows.
When he guides her to the picnic he's arranged, her expression goes soft and warm. She turns one way, then the other, taking it all in; the flicker of small lights among the leaves and the rush and trickle of the nearby river. The beads that dangle down behind her ears catch and flash in the light. ]
You put this together? It's so beautiful.
[ There are stars in her eyes as she turns back to smile at him.
A meal in this lovely place and a room for them both afterward. It's not the first time they've shared a room or a night together, though the number of times she slept in a chair outside his door couldn't exactly be considered "together", but it already promises to be one of the nicer ones.
Blushing, her heart full, she takes a seat on the edge of the blanket and motions him down to join her. ] Come here, show me what you've brought.
[The look on her face makes it all worth it. Wuque smiles warmly at her and comes to sit down with her on the blanket, carefully arranging the dishes to show her. And what they happen to be are things he saw her taking a liking to during their travels. He can't be sure how many are her favorites but he does know that these were always what she would reach for first during meals together.]
I wanted to make things that I thought you would like the most.
[Some he's sure aren't entirely accurate but he's tasted all of them to make sure they taste good, ever grateful for the cooking lessons he's been getting from Kexing.
Fetching the tea, he gently pours her some and offers her the cup.]
[ Her eyes widen and she takes the cup from him. ] You cooked these?
[ Just about every dish he laid out is something she enjoys, and she lights up like a lantern seeing her favorite braised pork among the offerings. She breathes in the mingled scents of garlic, chilis, and ginger deeply. ]
It looks amazing, I'm so excited to try them all. I didn't know you knew how to cook.
[ Wouldn't have imagined it from the reserved and proper Wuque she'd originally known. ]
[ Xinlan goes warm to her toes and ducks her head in a vain attempt to hide her smiling blush. Ah, what had she done to earn such consideration? ]
You already do that. [ She reached out to grip his hand, trying to put her whole heart into the words. ] Better than anyone.
[ She leaned back, face still warm, and took up her chopsticks to try from the pork dish. ] I'd really like to get to know this Wen-xiong you speak so highly of.
[ She held her hand under the piece of meat to catch any drips and brought it to her mouth. Her eyes closed in delight at the flavor. ] It's so good!
I think you like them. Wen-xiong and Zhou-xiong both. We live with them so when there is time I will make sure you know them both.
[It's quite the full household they live in but he appreciates that. Loves it really. There's so much life compared to how he grew up and he finds he doesn't want to part from it. Which is why he's grateful the two men are willing to live on the lands he purchased with him and his brother as well as their future wives.
Her face lighting up at the taste of the food just makes his own light up as well. He'd hoped it would be good but of course there's no way to fully know if someone will love it until they try it.]
I'm glad. I can cook for you more in the future if you like. Or we can cook together.

[Wuque doesn't mind admitting that he is only just now learning. Because he's been working hard on it. All so...]
I wanted to learn so I could be able to take care of you.
